Le Grande Cirque: A Celebration of Human Abilities

On the day before Christmas, we usually stay at home and prepare for Noche Buena. This year, we did it differently because we went to Araneta Coliseum instead and watched Le Grande Cirque! :) It was really amazing. We saw death-defying stunts, comedy acts, and almost impossible tricks that I could not even imagine were possible by human beings. It's definitely a show for the whole family.

Hair Wavz and Magic Leverag

I really like curling my hair without using any heat and I achieve this by using a curling product called Magic Leverag that I bought from a deal site. It's also known by another brand, Curlformers. Then another brand popped up that I saw on HSN channel just recently and it's called Hair WAVz. When I saw it I was tickled because I was thinking it's exactly the same one I'm using but after watching the video long enough I realized this is different. The curlers are longer and fatter. Also I already stopped using Magic Leverag because my hair is really long now. It looks "bitin" when I curl the ends of my hair with it. So I had a sudden urge to buy this Hair WAVz thinking I could probably curl my hair again without having to cut my hair to medium length.... and I did. The next day my product arrived. First impressions are the curlers are definitely longer and fatter and you can see the product comparisons with the pictures below.

Hair Wavz (blue and green) on the left. Magic Leverag (yellow and pink) on the right

Hair Wavz (left) looks twice as long

How about performance? Well the material looks exactly the same so I have no doubt it will work the same as well. I usually leave these curlers on wet hair overnight because I don't like putting heat on them but when I'm in a hurry I guess I'll try blowing drying them. The picture below is the result of the Hair Wavz on wet hair overnight and taken out in the morning. On the left I used the fatter curlers. The effect was more like a wave than a curl. I like it. It's elegant in a laid back way. On the right I used the thin longer curler. I like this one as well because the curls are neater and holds better on my hair. So it depends on my mood which I'll be using. If I'm feeling laid back I'll use the fatter one and I think on formal occasions I'll be using the thinner curler. Of course this is just on my hair. It could be different on different kinds of hair. I still have to try it on my sis who has thicker hair. I think the fatter one would suit her well.

Used fat curlers on the left and thin long curlers on the right

At the back of the hair I used the longer curlers of course and I really love the effect. It's just right for my really long hair. If you check the length of the Magic Leverag above you will see that it will only curl half of my hair from the tips.

What it looks like at the back. I had to adjust the brightness because the pic was really dark

Conclusion: I'm happy with the Hair Wavz because it has long curlers and fat curlers. I also like the fact that it's color coded like the green ones should be on the right side of hair and the blue curlers should be on the left. It will look great on the front because you'll know the hair will curl away from the face. I was having trouble with this using the other brand not knowing which way the curl goes. The style wand I like because it's sturdier. It comes in two pieces like the other brands that you can snap into one piece. The Hair Wavz wand is sturdier because once you snap it, it will stay in place. This is important when you're pulling your hair inside the curlers. My experience before with the wand of Magic Leverag is it keeps breaking off into two again while pulling my hair inside the curlers. That can be frustrating and time consuming. But somehow I wish there's a way I could break the Hair Wavz wand into two again when I need to for easier storage.

So how about price? Well compared to the curlers that can be found on deal sites (Magic Leverag, Curlformers) the price of Hair Wavz is ridiculous. If only Magic Leverag or Curlformers had longer curlers I wouldn't even think of buying Hair Wavz. I have a feeling those can be found somewhere in stores but I still have to hunt it up. But since I'm lazy to hunt and Hair Wavz was a call away I just swallowed the price for convenience sake. After receiving the product, I somehow don't regret the price too much. The quality of Hair Wavz is really good and I like the colors. No one would say it's cheap looking. It's stored in an organdy pouch bag that looks quite elegant. Also I have the option of fat curlers. I don't think the other brands have that. And it has 30 curlers all in all! So I don't think I need to buy another curler ever again (not after paying this price).

I bought my second Magic Leverag set at TCAT (P170) http://www.tcat.com.ph but it's available on other deal sites before as well (Metrodeal, Ensogo, Groupon, etc.). I lent my first set to a friend and it never came back.

Hair Wavz cost me P1295 plus shipping so it's P1390 all in all. You can check the product here www.facebook.com/HSNPH.

Noche Buena 2012

This year's Noche Buena we decided on a White Christmas theme. Everything we served is white except for the Christmas ham of course. Well we tried our best to make everything white anyway but colored dishes are really tasty hehe. Enjoy!

John and Yoko Cosmopolitan Japanese Resto

Therese and I first ate at John and Yoko in November last year. We liked it so much that we vowed we'll eat there again. Well that vow was only accomplished just last August. Being busy and so many other restaurants to try we only got back just recently.

We ate at our usual spot in Greenbelt 5, Makati even to the very same table near the window. There were reviews before that when you eat at John and Yoko you'll come out smelling like food. I think they have fixed their exhaust system now because when we went there recently and being a full-house since it's lunch time we still came out smelling fresh. The other customers seem to think that way as well. The waitresses donned their usual mini skirts which nobody seemed to mind because their service this time was good. The last time we went there they had leggings or dark stockings beneath their skirts so it wouldn't be too revealing. There were reviews before that their service wasn't that good and put the fault on the revealing skirts making them too uncomfortable.

But overall Therese and I had a lovely time. She as usual ordered too much and had to take home some of her food. Below are the pics of food we ordered last November (the first four) and the rest the ones we ordered last August. As usual I'll come back again when I crave for some Japanese fusion.

Finding Nemo - this is good for 3 people. loved everything on it

Beef Teppan - Therese ordered this and she said it's so so. (I think beef is not one of this restaurant's strong points)

Chicken Teriyaki and Mango Pizza - this is their bestseller! and one of the reasons why we keep coming back. Yum!

Hehe there's actually three of us but the other person hasn't arrived yet. Also we recommend the 'green' iced tea if you're choosing between colors

Oyster Overload - I love this! I always loved tahong or oyster with cheese. this made me full very fast

Ocean's Eleven - Good for 3 or 4. I don't know why Therese ordered this but it's too much for two people. But still yummy. At the back you can see the Wagyu Rice. It's still so-so.

Crunchy Tuna Roll - since I liked Finding Nemo before, I ordered again one of the sushis in it. If you like spicy you'll like this one. I'll order the Philadelphia roll next time.

Hotel Celeste Lunch Buffet

In one of our monthly get together my friend invited me to have lunch at Hotel Celeste located at the center of Makati at the intersection of Arnaiz Avenue (Pasay Road) and San Lorenzo Drive (just outside the gate of San Lorenzo Village). I've heard about the hotel before that they have nicely designed rooms inside and have different themes for design. We didn't check out the rooms so I couldn't say anything more about it.

I knew the hotel was a bit small so I wasn't expecting anything grand of a buffet like Shangri-La, Sofitel and the like. Judging from the price though I was expecting a little more selection but I guess we were paying for the ambiance as well.

I didn't find anything special about the food. I didn't like much the Angus beef they served but maybe it's just me. I'm no expert in meats. I did like however the Buffalo Chicken (which tastes kinda similar like Korean chicken) and the potato slices (very yummy bacon taste). The desserts were so-so. I guess all in all I would say a person who likes to eat a lot would find the buffet worthwhile since it's eat-all-you-can plus the ambiance but for those who are used to great selection of food they should opt for other buffet venues.

The restaurant with very nice interior

The entrance of the hotel can be seen on the left side and the buffet table upfront

Razzzo Bistro and Serye for Valentines

For Valentines 2012 I treated my family to Razzzo Bistro and Serye since they both had group buying vouchers at that time.

Razzzo is located inside BF Homes along Aguirre Avenue. I've always passed by their restaurant going home from work and I'm glad I've had the opportunity to eat there. The place inside looks very nice. I love the interior designing. I imagined this would be a great place for dates and romantic dinners.

Love the wall designs

There are dining booths along the walls for a more private dining experience

I love the chicken and drinks at Razzzo. The chicken is just tasty all the way up to the bone. I'm even craving for it now while I'm writing this. I also ordered a Green Tea Smoothie and it was great! But I ordered one of the combo meals and didn't realize it included a blue soda drink so I had two drinks to finish :(. But they both tasted great anyway. I think the blue one is dalandan flavor.

We checked their comfort rooms and I just had to take a picture of it. It's so nicely designed. The whole place is just a treat for the eyes.

After having lunch at Razzzo we treated ourselves for some dessert at Serye. There's one located in Sucat road at Santana Grove which is fairly near from Razzzo. Their promo is a cake and a coffee for only P99. I've always wanted to taste their Macapuno Pandan Cake because I love pandan and green cakes so that's what I ordered. It's the best Pandan Cake I've tasted so far :). Didn't disappoint me at all. Not too sweet and just right. My brothers and sisters said their cakes are all good. Below are their pics.
